1/18/2021 5 Comments ANNOUNCING: The 3rd Prompt Winner!THE PROMPT:THE WINNER: Emma LynnHER STORY:The sword didn’t select the King first. He wasn’t its first choice. It first selected a Queen. A Queen who ruled for only a few mere years. Secretive, shadowed years. She was scorned as a liar. A witch, a thief. The sword was once a gift, but in her grasp, it became a curse. A reminder of the hatred she faced. So she shrouded herself in the timeless mists of magic. Now, I stand before the dead King. I remember his cold eyes and steel grip as he snatched the sword from me. As he snatched my life from me. He was praised, and worshipped, and loved. All of the things that I should’ve been. And I kneel down and retrieve what was once mine. The sword glints in the fading moonlight. “Hello old friend,” I whisper. The words fade into the space between the limp, crownless man and me. MY THOUGHTS: I love this story so much! From word one it has such a cool, distinct voice! I love the way the backstory is relayed so effortlessly. The reader can clearly see and feel the characters (especially the MC's bitterness). I need a novel about this queen, like, RIGHT NOW.
