Welcome to The Writer Games!
We are an annual flash fiction writing contest that lasts the whole month of January. Made by Writers, for Writers, we welcome all levels of writing, and provide cool prizes and opportunities for everyone!
How Does This Work?
Starting January 1st, each week is a new Round, with its own special wordcount, prompts, requirements, and prizes. The first three Rounds are Elimination Rounds, which means only a certain amount of the participants who enter will continue on to the next.
Only the three top Writers will make it to the Fourth and Final Round. Where they will each be assigned to a personal Mentor (a specially selected published author) who can chat with them about all things writing, and who is also tasked with beta-reading their final flash fiction entry.

When The Games Begin
After signing up for the Writer Games 2021, sit back and wait for January 1st. At 12:00 PM (CST) January 1st we will send out an email + blog post announcing the beginning of the Games (with all the info you need to get started).
From there, the process is simple: follow the instructions, write your entry, and submit it as an uploaded google doc via the form supplied in the blog post.
Each week we will repeat this process.

The Judging Process
We have a team of four bookdragons as our official Judges. At the end of each Round, our Judge Moderator sorts through the entries, removing the names so each entry can be judged unanimously, then he sends them out to the Judges. The Judges read through each entry and fill out the TWG point system and send their individual grades back to the Moderator.
From there, our Moderator tallies up the points for each entry, the top move on to the next Round while the rest are eliminated.
For the fourth and Final Round, the entries are posted to be read and voted on by our reading community. The story that is voted on most wins.

Prizes
Other than our Grand Prize (which is gifted to the grand winner of the Writer Games), our Mini prizes are won by a random draw. Everyone who submits an entry to the Writer Games is put into a random draw each week for our Mini Prizes.
The Arena
Throughout the month of January, in addition to the main Games, we will be posting mini challenge prompts that last for two days each. Writers (whether eliminated from the Games or not) can come together and write flash fiction stories of 150 words or less according to each prompt. The Writer Games host (Julia Skinner) will choose her favorite story to feature on the official Writer Games Instagram. At the end of the month, all of the 'winners' of the Arena will be put into a random draw giveaway to win a special bookmark.
