1/14/2020 12 Comments ROUND THREE"A professional writer is an amateur who didn’t quit.” — Richard Bach. I can hardly BELIEVE this is the last of the Writer Games Elimination Rounds, and that next week is the Finals!!!! Ten writers will be entering this Third Round, and only the top three will be moving on to the Finals (in which is open voting, medals, prizes, and personal Writing Mentors!) -- which means you're going to want to pay extra attention to your entry for this Round. Let's get into all the info for this Round! THE WRITERS GOING ON TO THE NEXT ROUND:(NOTE: names are in alphabetical order and has nothing to do with ranking) Amanda Fisher Angie Thompson Ash Ronnel Bethany Meyer Bradley Daniels Eden Anderson LB M. A. Starr Sarah Baran Shaina Merrick THE MINI PRIZE WINNERS THE PRIZE & Winners: ~ $5 Amazon Giftcard (Winner: Sarah Baran) ~ 1 duct-tape notebook (Winner: Bethany Meyer) TO THE MINI PRIZE WINNERS: Keep an eye on your emails. In a little bit Kassie Angle (TWG Co-Host) will be contacting you to see where she should send your prize! WEEK THREE: ROUND THREEDATE BEGINS: January 15th 12:00 PM CST ENTRIES DUE: January 20th by 12:00 PM CST WRITE YOUR ENTRY IN: Third Person WORD COUNT: 500 or less REQUIREMENT: Write 500 words or less THE MINI CHALLENGE: "Straighten up little soldier" (use this prompt as inspiration for your entry: either use it word for word, or just base the events off of it) (NOTE: You do not HAVE to use the mini challenge prompt, however if you do you will receive extra points). ABOUT: Round Three - aka Round Ut Inspira (Latin for "to inspire") - marks the end of the Elimination Rounds by requiring the contestants to write their flash fiction entry in Third Person, in 500 words or less. The Judges are looking for powerful original flash fiction stories that portray our 2020 theme, give life to realistic characters, stand firmly on a purpose/plot, and (if you choose) expertly weave this Round's Mini Prompt into it. Only the top three of the original 10 entering this Round will be moving on to Round Four/Finals. TIP: Take the time to "tighten" your story before submitting. In other words, don't submit something that feels like a snippet taken out of a bigger work, or that leaves you hanging abruptly. Give us a 500 word story that feels complete, and whole, and above all else, let it be meaningful. *Also, note: this is the last Round where the entries will be graded by judges, for the final round (aka Round Four) the entries will be opened to voting. THIS ROUND'S MINI PRIZEAbout: Mini Prizes are a random draw, which MEANS you don't have to "WIN" The Writer Games to win one of these awesome little prizes! Each round has a different Mini Prize(s) and a varying amount of winners who will be drawn to win the prizes. After you send in your entry for that specific round, you will automatically be entered into a random draw giveaway for the Mini Prize(s) that are available for that Round! Mini Prize winners are announced at the end of each Round. ROUND THREE MINI PRIZE (1 winner will be drawn this round): ~ Do Hard Things by Alex and Brett Harris (book) ~ HOW DO I SUBMIT MY ENTRY? ~All signups are now closed. Which means, only the 10 writers (listed at the beginning of this round) who were passed to this Third Round will be allowed to submit an entry. For those in Round Three, I will be sending y'all an email with a link to the submission form for your Round Three 500 word entries. (NOTE: If you don't see our email after today, check your spam box). FORWARD AND ONWARD WRITERS, to fantasy and soldiers and stories galore!
Happy Writing! ~ Julia, TWG Co-Host. PS. Your Entries are due January 20th by 12:00 PM (NOON) Central Time. No exceptions. If you live in another time zone, please make sure to figure out the correct time so you do not accidentally miss the due date (the submission form will close at the given time so that the judges have the time to grade each entry). ALSO, please mark on your calendars/set a reminder for the 20th so you do not forget the day everything is due. We don't want anyone to miss out because of forgetting or time confusion!
